City Point on Bourke
landmark residential development in the heart of the CBD
In late 1999 Central Equity purchased the City Point site from Australia Post and City Point was one of the first developments to gain planning approval under the Labor State Government. It was then one of the largest single apartment developments in central Melbourne’s history
Today the $100 million 31-storey City Point at 668 Bourke Street is nearing completion and can boast over 300 apartments including double storey penthouses valued in excess of $1.2 million.
Residents at City Point will enjoy Central Equity’s new “Concierge” range of services including a concierge, convenience store and on-site property management. Broadband cabling to every apartment facilitates high speed Internet (available on a PC or on a TV if a resident does not have a PC), on-demand entertainment content including movies and music videos, plus many other exciting services in the future as they become available.
“City Point has been designed to embrace new technology, every apartment will give owners access to the latest technological changes which we are seeing today and which are forecast for the future”, Central Equity Managing Director, Mr. Eddie Kutner said. Mr. Kutner added that Central Equity has retained and restored both the historical façade and inside of the two former Australia Post buildings.
City Point is strategically located within seconds of Spencer Street Station, which is undergoing a $700 million redevelopment. City Point is also walking distance to the Crown Entertainment complex and Southgate, only metres away from the Colonial Stadium and a block away from the Australian Stock Exchange. The development can boast views across Melbourne’s skyline.
During construction, the 2.5 metre deep raft concrete slab saw the single largest pour in Melbourne for 10 years and was probably the largest single residential pour ever! With 500 cement trucks queued down Bourke Street, three concrete pumps continuously pouring for 10 hours the construction team witnessed the pouring of approximately 2583 cubic metres of concrete.
City Point stands as an oasis in the centre of Melbourne featuring two tennis courts, a 20 m indoor swimming pool, gymnasium and barbecue garden courtyard. An expansive glass atrium links the old building with the new.
“City Point on Bourke is further evidence of our success in the inner city residential market and the strength of the Victorian economy,” Mr. Kutner said.
